ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE CHURCH( TsingYI)
Brief
The Church of St. Thomas the Apostle is located at the southwest of Tsing
Yi Island. With the process of urbanization and influx of new population,
the provisional Church of St. Thomas the Apostle came to operation on 4
July 1999, bringing new life and new image to the district.On the main door of the Church, 16 bronze relieves, divided into three
themes, are embedded. The themes are the Salvation History; the history of
evangelization in China; the development of the Church of Hong Kong.
There are also many pieces of artwork: the huge stained glass window above
the altar, the mosaic mural in front of the baptistery, the seven stained glass
windows depicting the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost above the
baptistery
The classical Eucharist tabernacle at the Eucharist Chapel came from the
Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME). It has 160 years’ of history.
The sacred relics being placed in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle is a
precious holy gift given by the Italian Bishop Enzio D’Antonio in response
to the request made by Rev. Bonalumi Luigi, PIME.
